Please allow me to be candid: Our elected leaders have missed an opportunity to empower us. We don't want to assume it's intentional, but it's tough to overlook. All we want to do is ask the crucial questions, and hopefully provide some common sense solutions:
-
Why are we not automatically registered to vote?
-
Why is election day not a holiday?
-
Who benefits from low voter turnout?
-
Who benefits from low citizen participation?
-
Who suffers when the people become apathetic to our governing system?
-
What is the result of severe lack of trust in our governing system?
OUR PROPOSAL
-
Election Day must become a city holiday, where ALL people are free from their work
-
Increase Polling Locations to Serve neglected communities
-
Ensure that 100% of our people are registered to vote
-
Expand Voter Education programs in weeks leading up to elections, so citizens know their options
-
Cooperate with State and County officials to ensure laws are fair, export this model to other cities and towns
BLOCKCHAIN / ONLINE VOTING
We invite brilliant tech innovators among us to design and propose a 21st century model for our voting, so we can become more secure and accountable in our vote, as well as more accessible and fair to all people.
I believe the solution may be in the use of blockchain technology and online voting with secure access and unique identification software.
It's time we made voting a crucial part of our city government, and we expand key decision making beyond general elections.
It is time we inspire CONSTANT CITIZEN PARTICIPATION, so our people have the choice and the means to participate in our government more times throughout the year, and with greater ease and security.
It's time we restore POWER TO THE PEOPLE, reestablish trust in our municipal authority, and level the playing field so everyone's voice is truly heard.
